The normal order of work

A clean site prep sequence usually starts with access and clearing, then moves into excavation or fill balance, compaction, and finish grading before the concrete or paving crew arrives.

On smaller residential sites, several of those steps happen quickly. On commercial or wet sites, they need more inspection and moisture management.

  • Clear access before trucks and machines arrive.
  • Confirm elevations and drainage before placing final fill.
  • Do not skip compaction just because the site looks level.

Where jobs go sideways

The biggest misses are usually poor drainage planning, soft subgrade, or unclear handoff points between dirt work and concrete.

That is why good site-prep quotes talk about haul, imported fill, stabilization, and tolerance instead of just saying the crew will make it flat.
