When a smaller fix works
Minor drainage problems often come from a single low spot, a failed shoulder, or runoff that is not being directed where it should go. In those cases, a targeted grading correction may be enough.
That is especially true when the rest of the site already drains well and the problem only shows up in one corner, one side yard, or one driveway edge.
When regrading is the better answer
If multiple parts of the property stay soft, water moves back toward the house, or the whole yard feels uneven, a patch fix usually just moves the problem around.
Full regrading is more appropriate when the site needs a coherent slope plan instead of one more spot repair.
- Look for repeated ponding, not just one wet patch.
- Check whether downspouts, swales, and grade all work together.
- If topsoil or turf are part of the fix, make sure that work is included in the quote.
